New video showing the rapper's DUI arrest in Hollywood
early Wednesday captures the moment he tried to sprint from officers and make
his getaway.
The "Blow the
Whistle" rapper made it less than half a block before his arresting
officers pinned him to the pavement, the grainy footage posted on TMZ.com
confirms.
A police source previously told the Daily News that
Too Short, born Todd Anthony Shaw, tripped and fell after trying to cut and
run.
A parked police cruiser blocks the TMZ video's view of
the tumble.
Too Short's manager defended the ill-fated attempt to
flee, saying the performer was worried he wasn't getting a fair shake.
"In the past, Short, like many others, has been
mistreated by law enforcement and the LAPD," manager David Weintraub said
in a release. "These unfortunate prior incidents led to the complications
after the stop."
The 46-year-old rapper was first arrested around 3
a.m. Wednesday for DUI.
He blew 0.09 on the Breathalyzer, his manager
confirmed.
Authorities rebooked him for felony drug possession a
few hours later after cops found narcotics that he allegedly tried to ditch in
the back of a squad car.
The manager denied the drugs belonged to the
platinum-selling artist, who's collaborated with Tupac Shakur, The Notorious
B.I.G. and Snoop Dogg.
"Short categorically denies any drug involvement
leading to the arrest," Weintraub said.
"Short was diligently searched and cuffed prior
to being placed in the disgustingly filthy patrol car," he said. "The
(cop) car was disgusting, smelled like vomit and was littered with remnants
from prior arrests of the evening."
Besides, Weintraub added, "every rap fan knows
Short (is) into weed!"
